Chavia Ali

Chavia has a strong interest in questions of disability, human rights, the protection of civilians in armed conflicts, peacebuilding, gender equality, resilient communities, and sustainable post-conflict reconstruction.

She has worked for more than twenty years as an advocate for human rights and disability rights in the Arab States region and since coming to Sweden, has worked on projects supporting refugees and newcomers. She has also been a member of several reference groups on human rights and inclusion, and is looking forward to contributing her experience to Newcomers with Disabilities. 

She holds a degree in law from the University of Aleppo, Syria, and a master’s in International Human Rights Law from Lund University and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights in Sweden.

Chavia speaks Arabic, English, Kurdish, Swedish and Spanish.
